Rumor: Jason West retires from video game industry due to family issues

The co-founder of Respawn has moved on

Respawn Entertainment co-founder Jason West has left the company, sources close to the studio have informed me. Co-founder Vince Zampella is now the acting head of the studio.

The duo are best known for having created the Call of Duty series under Activision.

I’m told West has not been involved in active development for Respawn’s game for a number of months now, but it has not impacted development.

Jason West, a co-creator of Call of Duty and co-founder of video game studio Respawn Entertainment, has left the company he helped found, two sources have informed Kotaku. The departure was amicable.

West, who left because of family issues, has been gone since last May, according to one reliable source who asked not to be named.

West has not been involved with the development of Respawn's first game, which will be published by EA.

Jason West, former Infinity Ward president, has left Respawn Entertainment, the company he helped found in 2010 with fellow Infinity Ward founder Vince Zampella, Polygon has learned.

West's departure was, sources familiar with the situation tell Polygon, not related to any issues at the studio, but rather family related. Multiple sources say that West has been gone for some time.
